It is the mission of the Laredo Police Department to enhance the quality of life in Laredo by establishing a partnership with the community in an effort to preserve life, protect property and enforce the law.

Under the direction of Chief of Police Claudio Trevino Jr., the Laredo Police Department employs over 600 personnel from sworn to civilian. Currently, the Laredo Police Department is the 8th largest police department in the states of Texas.

The Department has five command divisions each lead by a Command Captain. Within these divisions, there are numerous specialized units such as the traffic unit (motor squad), bike patrol, park police, K9, and more.

With an emphasis on Community Oriented Policing, the Department strives to forge and maintain strong, positive relationships with the community of Laredo through various programs such as Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out, Blue Santa, McGruff, career days and special presentations. Through events such as these, the Department has the ability to engage with members of our community in a positive environment while listening to their concerns and addressing crucial issues that may not otherwise be made known to the Department.
